Saturdays are usually scheduled as my active rest day. I learned in September of last year that hard workouts every day will cause burnout and our bodies need rest, even if it is “active rest.” I mentioned earlier that training in the various heart rate zones is very important. Active rest for me is an activity that doesn’t cause my heart rate to go much higher than my low zone two, but preferably staying in zone one. So I walk. And if there is time, I take a yoga class. Today I was on schedule to do both, but I took a few steps outside and knew I would not be going inside for a 75 minute yoga class when I could walk in the sunshine and mild weather. It was absolutely beautiful today. A day to take in all that is around me and let the fresh air clear my head and lungs.
This first week of 2012 has been challenging for me. It was my first week to swim four days, three of which were in a row. I had a hard (but good) speed set running Thursday and by this morning, my lungs were pleased to not be pushed. It was also a challenging week for all of the things going on in my head, and yes in my heart. I have learned this week there are many things my friends see that I am just beginning to believe in my heart. But my mantra is Believe.
I wanted to share the wonderful scenery I had today on my walk. It was too beautiful to keep to myself.
