Fix You

“Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.” – Coldplay. This has to be one of my favorite songs for so many reasons. It has multiple applications today, but for now it also applies to my swimming. I had a great workout this morning – 3,000 meters and it is Tuesday so that means 6 x 100 on 2:10 send off. After a 1,000 meter warm up I went for it. And I did it. All 100’s on 2:10. Last week I did 3 and was hoping for 4 today. When 5 and 6 came in on time, I was thrilled. I have had many people critique my stroke, offer suggestions, basically try to fix me. But I had to ignite the belief in me, and I fixed me.

After that set, I did a 200 meter pull and 200 meter kick. Up to 2,000 meters at that point, I decided to try another work out my friend suggested. This would be 5 x 200 on 4:30 send off with the goal of coming in on 4:15. I did all 5 within the 4:30 send off but still have to get all 5 within 4:15 swim. I was between 4:15 and 4:20. I am working on it and believe it will happen.

And then I will do the 6 x 100 and 5 x 200 sets within 2:00 and 4:15. It will take a while, and I will make mistakes along the way. And as the song says “I promise you I will learn from my mistakes…”

  1. You are getting stronger and stronger because of the hard work and your mindset. Keep it up , you are seeing that yes, we can still get better, faster and stronger as are bodies season.
